Terms of use
Then What? · last updated 1 September 2026
These terms govern your use of the Then What? app. Installing or playing it means you accept them. If you do not, please do not use the app.
1. Who provides the service
Then What? is provided by Ritmi, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company. Contact: newglad.apps@gmail.com.
2. What the service is
Then What? is a work of interactive fiction. Every story is written by an AI model as you play, in response to the choices you make. Two players making the same choices will not get the same text, and no story is written or reviewed in advance by a person.
3. Age
The app is rated 16+ and you must be at least that age to play. Stories contain dramatic themes — combat, peril, crime and conflict among them — presented as fiction.
4. Complimentary story and subscriptions
New players may play one complete story at no charge. Starting another story or replaying the first one requires a subscription, which unlocks unlimited access to every story in the app, including ones added later.
- Subscriptions are sold through the store you installed the app from — the App Store on iOS, Google Play on Android — and billed to your Apple ID or Google account. Prices and available periods are shown in the app before you confirm.
- A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period unless you turn it off before the period ends. On the App Store that means turning off auto-renewal at least 24 hours beforehand, and your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours of the period ending.
- Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID settings or in your Google Play subscriptions, depending on where you bought it. Cancelling stops future renewals; the current period runs to its end.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own terms, not by us.
- "Restore purchases" in the app re-checks your Apple ID or Google account for an existing subscription and restores access on a new device or after reinstalling.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Write custom story premises that ask for content that is illegal, that sexualises minors, or that is intended to harass or endanger a real person. Custom premises are screened automatically before use and refused if flagged.
- Attempt to bypass the free allowance, the subscription check or the abuse limits, including by creating player identities in bulk.
- Access the service other than through the app — scraping, automating or reverse engineering the API.
- Resell, redistribute or publicly perform the service as your own.
We may limit or end access that breaks these rules, and we apply rate limits to every player to keep the service affordable to run.
6. Your content and ours
Premises you write remain yours. By submitting one you grant us the licence needed to run the game with it — to send it to the AI provider, generate a story from it, and store the result so you can keep playing.
The app itself — its code, artwork, story catalogue and the prompts behind it — belongs to us. Story text generated during your play is yours to read, screenshot and share; the underlying software and story designs are not.
7. Availability
The service is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free: it depends on an external AI provider, and stories can fail to generate or arrive slowly. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it, including individual stories.
8. Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the service, and our total liability is limited to what you paid in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law rules. Nothing here removes a consumer protection you have where you live.
10. Changes
If these terms change materially, the date at the top changes with them, and the new version is published here before it takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new version.
